Gaulitana: A Festival of Music celebrated Easter Sunday with a festive concert held at the Exhibition Hall, Ministry for Gozo. The concert featured the Bel Canto Ensemble from
The group presented an unusual concert, mostly of Italian operatic numbers ranging from Rossini to Puccini, with the numbers performed being either arrangements for soprano and instrumental trio or just for instrumental trio (apart from a few numbers in the usual voice-piano combination).
This, as well as the group’s excellent performance – which was full of verve, interaction between the performers and communication with the audience -, took the sizeable audience by surprise. Indeed the continuous applause and the long ovation at the end concert explained it all. No wonder the ensemble reciprocated the audience’s enthusiasm with two encores, in spite of the fact that the soprano – who had the lion’s share of the concert – had already sung no less than 11 numbers!
At the end of the concert all were looking forward to the ensemble’s forthcoming performance on Tuesday.
