Finally, after having to call off her recital last year due to severe larynghitis, English soprano Emma Darling made a return to the Gaulitana scene with a recital at the Ministry for Gozo’s Exhibition Hall on Wednesday 11th May.
The audience which packed the Ministry’s inner hall was treated to a highly enjoyable evening where Darling showed her versatilty and artistry performing varied numbers ranging from traditional unaccompanied British folk songs to others in the English language (Purcell and Herbert), from Italian opera (Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Respighi) to French opera (Saint Saens), as well as a Schubertian lied. The recital was made more interesting by Darling introducing each number in her typical relaxed and highly communicative manner. As was the case two years back, Emma Darling was accompanied by Gozitan pianist Stephen Attard, the resident accompanist of the Gaulitanus Choir.
Darling will now be one of the guest artists joining the Gaulitanus choir for the final night of the festival.
