On Sunday 1st December, the Gaulitanus Choir participated in an Akkademja held at St Francis Conventual Church, Victoria to mark the 350th anniversary of the Fraternity of the Immaculate Conception. Entitled Int l –Unur tal-Poplu Taghna, this was held under the patronage of H.E. the President of the Republic Dr George Abela, and was attended by H. L. the Bishop of Gozo Mgr Mario Grech, by the Franciscan Provincial Fr Alfred Calleja and by the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo.
The choir’s first intervention consisted of 2 Hymns of St Francis, arranged by Colin and Jean Noel Attard, namely Riz Ortolani’s Dolce Sentire and Sebastian Temple’s Make me a Channel of Your Piece. This featured treble Mikaela Bajada as soloist. The second choral intervention consisted of Felix Mendelssohn’s motet Hear my Prayer with soprano soloist Annabelle Zammit and the bouncy Alleluia! Gloria! by Vann Trapp and Tom Fettke. The choir’s final intervention consisted of a Marian Triptych, namely the Gregorian Salve Regina (which was performed together with the audience), Jacob Arcadelt’s famous Ave Maria and Lorenzo Perosi’s Tota Pulchra (arranged by Colin Attard).
