Sunday 20th November included an atypical commitment for the Gaulitanus Choir: giving a celebrative concert to mark the 100th anniversary of scouting in Gozo. Organized by the Victoria and Xaghra Scout Groups, the concert was held at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz and was attended by top scouting officials and a very appreciative audience led by Mr Edgar Preca, the President’s husband.
Typically, the choir presented a bouncy and easily-communicable repertoire specifically chosen for the occasion. This included, amongst others, a number of songs composed some 100 ago, a grand choral medley from the best-loved musicals and a concluding medley of marches which had the audience heartily and vivaciously joining in. The choir and its soloists – Annabelle Zammit, Patricia Buttigieg, Stephanie Sultana Portelli and Marthese Borg – were accompanied by resident pianist Stephen Attard and conducted by the choir’s founder-director Colin Attard.
While Carm Cachia gave a brief overview of the main scouting achievements during the past century, scouter Chloe Muscat also performed an excerpt on the piano.
