On Saturday 7th August, the Gaulitanus Choir had another important commitment, namely the celebrative mass of recently-ordained priest Rev. Maximillian Grech held at the Gozo Cathedral. The choir was flanked by the Chorus Ecclesiae Cathedralis and accompanied by a sizeable orchestra led by Marcelline Agius and directed by Mro. Colin Attard. The soloists were soprano Joan Mangion, mezzo-soprano Connie Frances Zerafa, tenor Charles Vincenti and bass Noel Galea. The choir’s own Rev. Joseph Calleja sang the responsorial psalm.one finds
Several were the musical numbers which animated the liturgy. Yet pride of place was reserved to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Kronungmesse (Coronation Mass) KV 317. Amongst the other excerpts performed was Mozart’s antiphon Veni Sancte Spiritus KV 47, in what was potentially its first performance ever in the Maltese islands.
