Monday, 29thNovember 2010, was another red-letter day for the Gaulitanus Choir. Indeed the Gozitan choir gave a private concert at the Russian Chapel,SanAntonPalace, Attard for H. E. the President of the Republic, Dr. George Abela.

As requested by the President’s secretariat the choir performed music from the musical theatre. The concert started with two arrangements by Ed Lojeski, a selection from Andrew Lloyd Webber’sPhantom of the opera and another from Claude-Michel Schönberg’sLes Miserables. In the former the soloists were Marthese Borg and Fabian Galea whereas in the latter the soloists were Francesca Sciberras, Patricia Buttigieg and Joseph Buttigieg. A selection of Lionel Bart’sOliver!arranged by Norman Leyden followed, the soloists now being Annabelle Zammit and Tricia Fenech. The concert ended with a selectioncompiled by choir’s director Colin Attard entitled The best of musical filmswith Darren Vella as soloist.

The concert, very much full of oomph and bounce, was conducted by Mro. Attard while Stephen Attard accompanied on the keyboard. Joyce Guillaumier compered the event.

Towards the end of the concert H. E. the President thanked the Gaulitanus Choir for the concert and its ongoing endeavours and, after auguring the choir the very best for its forthcoming Firenze concert-tour, presented Mro. Attard with a memento. On his part Mro. Attard thanked H. E. for hosting the choir and, after acknowledging the choir’s delight in being able to celebrate the choir’s 20thanniversary also with the head of state, and presented Dr. Abela with a CD of the choir.

After the concert the choir was invited for drinks at the palace.
