On Saturday 27th October the Gaulitanus Choir gave a late afternoon concert of sacred music at the picturesque chapel of St. Dimitri in Gharb. The concert was organized by the Gharb Local Council in collaboration with the Gharb Parish on the occasion of the feast of St. Dimitri and was the first of its type.

The repertoire chosen was all in English. The concert opened with two  movements (Holy and Lamb of God) from a mass by Bob Dufford and Dan Schutte. It continued with the Swedish traditional song made popular in the US ‘O Lord My God’ (soloist: Francesca Sciberras).  Two  numbers by American composer Michael Joncas followed, namely ‘Take & Eat’ (solist: Patricia Buttigieg) and his most famous song ‘On Eagle’s Wings’ (soloist: Joseph Calleja). British composer Geoffrey Bush’s lullaby ‘Little Jesus’ (soloist: Josianne Callus) offered a temporary respite from the popular repertoire which returned with the gospel song made so popular by many American singers ‘Take My Hand. Precious Lord’ (soloist: Patricia Buttigieg). Stephen Adam’s ever-popular ‘The Holy City’ (soloist: Rita Dimech) performed next followed by William Monk’s very British ‘Abide With Me’ (soloist: Annabelle Zammit). The concert ended with Mark Andrew’s ‘Praise, My Soul, The King Of Heaven’.

As usual Stephen Attard accompanied on the keyboard with Colin Attard directing.
