Next Monday, 29th November 2010, the Gaulitanus Choir will be giving a private concert for H. E. the President of the Republic, Dr. George Abela and Mrs. Abela. The concert will be held at the Russian Chapel, San Anton Palace, Attard.

This is the second time that the choir will be singing for the President of the Republic. Indeed in 2007 a concert was given at the same venue during the tenure of Dr. Edward Fenech Adami. This year’s concert had been due in May but was postponed since H.E. had to spend some weeks recovering from an unfortunate incident while on a statal visit to China.

As requested by the President’s secretariat the choir will be performing music from the musical theatre – a genre which the choir has often presented with great success during these last two years, indeed also giving quite a new dimension to choral singing in Gozo. Thus arrangements from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the opera, Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Les Miserables, Lionel Bart’s Oliver! and the selection The best of musical films compiled by choir’s director Colin Attard will be performed. Mro. Attard will be conducting with Stephen Attard accompanying on the keyboard.

The concert was also meant to be part of the events celebrating the choir’s 20th anniversary and, indeed, it will surely enhance in no small way the programme of events held throughout the year.
