An Amazing Concert in an Exceptional Place

The Gaulitana: A Festival of Music continued this evening with the presentation of the Thrings String Trio who performed in the Museum of Sculpture in the Rotunda Church Xerkija. According to Mons. Carmelo Mercieca, Xewkija’s Archpriest this was the first time that a concert had been held in such a place. The ambience was truly first rate as can be attested to by the audience who chocked the auditorium. And, although this was the first time that the trio performed together, the result was a superb chamber music performance.

This international trio is made up of a Ukrainian, violinist Volodymyr Baran, an Austrian, violinist Svetlana Barer and a Swede, cellist Anja Inge. All have got international experience and performances under their belt - and this was evident in the way that they played. The program presented consisted of classical music by Johann S. Bach’s Die Kunst der Fuge (three movements), Ludwig van Beethoven’s Serenade in D major, Op. 8, (seven movements), four movements from Max Reger’s String Trio in A minor Op. 77b and Franz Schubert’s allegro from the String Trio in B flat major.
The next performace of the Gaulitana: A Festival of Music is on Friday the 24th April when the "La Maltija: Traditional Local Music, Dance and Food" will be presented. The attendees will listen to the Tal-Andar folk group and watch the Astra Folk Group dance whilst partaking of a four-course meal of typical Maltese food and wine.
