GAULITANA: A Festival of Music A humerous evening with 20 fingers

March 30, 2008 | Author: The Gaulitanus Choir | Filed under: Latest News

Mro Hoerling and Mro Franck at the humerous eveningThe Gaulitana Festival proceeded with the second evening in its itinerary: a humorous evening with the German artists Herr Wolfgang Hőrlin and Herr Franz Franck held at the Exhibition Hall in St. Francis Square at 8.00 p.m.

This atypical concert was thoroughly enjoyable and very well attended. Playing on two keyboards (or in 4 hands) the two German musicians have presented a programme consisting of improvisional music with humoristic variations and new combinations of various well-known classical themes such as Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Mozart’s Little Night Music, Tschaikovsky’s Piano Concerto, Beethoven’s symphonies, as well as modern composers such as the Beetles, to name just a few.

These artists also performed famous melodies such as Over in Glory Land as well as popular traditional Maltese tunes and re-arranged these in such stylizations as if famous composers such as Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart of Strauss would have written them. Indeed no one has heard these melodies played in such a way before.

This unforgetable, and thoroughly enjoyable concert concluded with a rousing rendition of the popular Petersburg Sleigh Ride. GAULITANA: A Festival of Music will continue tomorrow 31st March at 8.00 p.m. at The Gozo Heritage where a typical Maltes night La Maltija .. Traditional Local Music and Food will be held. During this evening the Gaulitanus Choir under the direction of Mr. Colin Attard will present a selection of typical popular Maltese folksongs as well as Mro. Carmelo Pace’s L-Imnarja. The Ta’ Saguna Folk Group will also be participating during this traditional night. Entrance for thsi evening (whcih will also include typical Maltese food & wine) is Euro 12 per person.
