joseph ellisOpera connoisseur Dr Joseph Ellis shares his views on director Castiglione and the upcoming Barbiere production at Gaulitana:

“I am always struck by Enrico Castiglione’s operatic productions. Without radically departing from traditional schemes so dear to local audiences, they are invariably relatively low key affairs which go to the jugular and focus on the most salient elements of the opera. His direction is invariably exciting and allows the audience to appreciate the opera at its most essential as its composer and librettist intended it to be.

I am looking forward to his exposition of the often complex comic intrigue that underpins il Barbiere. As I will be looking forward to the performance of Nico Darmanin who has a very promising career ahead of him and the rest of the cast. “
