The Gaulitanus Choir at the Finale: The World Of Musical Theatre
The third Gaulitana: A Festival of Music came to an end with the "Finale: The World Of Music Theatre" concert held on Sunday, 3rd May 2009, at 8.00 pm.
This concert was held at the Palazzo Palina in Ta’ Cenc, and the hall was filled to capacity by a very appreciative audience and guests.
The Gaulitanus choir sang a medley from two musicals: "The Sound of Music" and "Oliver".
Guest Soprano Emma Darling and Tenor Joseph Butigieg in "The Rain in Spain"
These were followed by two songs from Miss Emma Darling who had starred in a concert all of her own last Friday.
Then the choir sang Exerpts from the musicals "The Phantom of the Opera", "Les Miserables" and concluded with "My Fair Lady" in which the protagonists were Soprano Miss Emma Darling, Tenor Joseph Buttigieg and Bass Darren Vella, whose humorous "I’m getting married in the morning" closed the festivities. All the choir’s soloists took part in this grand Finale. Besides singing solo, Miss Darling also formed part of the choir as a very welcome guest singer.
Bass Darren Vella’s comic rendition of "I’m getting married in the morning!"
At the end of the concert the choir received such a big applause that the maestro, Colin Attard, decided to re-do three numbers as encores – all from the "My Fair Lady Musicals": These encores were "Why can’t the English" by Tenor Joseph Buttigieg, "The Rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain" By Emma Darling and Joseph Buttigieg and of course Bass Darren Vella’s comic rendition of "I’m getting married in the morning!".
One must applaud the impeccable playing of our resident organist: Mro Stephen Attard without whom the concert would not have been the success that it was.
Afterwards, the choir members and guests attended the after-concert buffet at the Conference Hall at Ta’ Cenc.
