As has been the case very often these last years, the Gaulitanus Choir is presenting an open-air summer concert devoted to the musical theatre – a somewhat adapted version of the musical theatre concert which characteristically closes Gaulitana: A Festival of Music. With the collaboration of the Gozo Culture & Information Office, the concert is being held on Friday 26th July at 21.00hrs at the Villa Rundle,Victoria. While the choir has performed in this garden several years back, it is the first time that it is performing at the recently thoroughly-refurbished venue.
The first selection is from Charles Strouse’s Annie prominently featuring the choir’s kids section and soloists Mikaela Bajada and Josianne Callus, while the second comes Irving Berlin’s classical Annie Get Your Gun. This selection is based very much on two principal singers: the choir’s own Terry Shaw and guest singer Julie James, with Jonathan Slater giving a helping hand. The final selection comes from Richard Rodgers’ immortal Carousel. Marthese Borg, Patricia Buttigieg and Annabelle Zammit and again Terry Shaw have the principal parts.. Of course the choir joins the fray in all the three selections adding vibe and colour to the show.
The show is artistically directed by Terry Shaw, who also devised the programme and did the musical arrangements with Gaulitanus’ conductor Colin Attard musically directing. Gaulitanus’ pianist Stephen Attard accompanies with Sue Scantlebury narrating the proceedings.
Entrance to the concert, which is also supported by Michael Grech Financial Investment Services, is free.
