Gaulitana: A Festival of Music joined the musical world in commemorating the 200th birth anniversary of Italy’s most famous operatic composer, Giuseppe Verdi. The Italian trio made up of soprano Fulvia Mastrobuono, tenor Dario Di Vietri and pianist Davide Dellisanti appeared at the festival for the second time in three days by giving an operatic recital at the Gozo Ministry’s Hall on Friday 19th April.
Arias, duets and piano selections from the operas Simon Boccanegra, I Vespri Siciliani, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Luisa Miller, Otello, Il Trovatore and Un Ballo in Maschera were performed. Following a lengthy applause the trio performed the Brindisi from La Traviata as an encore. Indeed the concert was very well-attended with H. E. Giovanni Umberto De Vito, Italy’s Ambassador to Malta being the guest of honour.
The festival continues on Sunday afternoon with a concert of songs by Ivor Novello while tea/coffee and cakes are served. Given by the Gaulitanus Choir soloists, this is being held at the Kempinski, San Lawrenz.
