Gaulitana: A Festival of Music was on even on Easter Sunday with another concert at the Exhibition Hall, Ministry for Gozo. The concert featured 4 Maltese youths who have studied or are studying at Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland – mostly as Ian Tomlin Scholars.

Flutist Laura Cioffi, a first year-student at Napier, opened the evening with 5 quite short numbers – mostly transcriptions – by Gossec, Telemann, Einaudi, Ravel and Chabrier. She was accompanied on the piano by Maria-Elena Farrugia.

Soprano Francesca Aquilina, a Napier graduate who is now starting a 2-year Masters degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff performed three excerpts by Mozart, Schumann and Weber accompanied by Stephen Attard.

Gozitan vioilinist Jean Noel Attard, now a 4th-year student at Napier and due to commence a 2-year Masters degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London, performed the unaccompanied great Chaconne from Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D Min.

Mezzo-soprano Clare Ghigo, a Napier graduate who is now continuing her studies at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, concluded the evening. Accompanied by Gaulitana artistic director Colin Attard, she enthralled the audience with Rossini’s song cycle La Regata Veneziana and an aria from Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

This highly interesting concert, where all the up-and-coming performers rose up to the occasion was attended by a nice audience led, for yet another time, by ex-Gozo Minister and ex-Speaker, Mr. Anton Tabone.
