The Gaulitanus Choir’s programme of events for the festive season culminates with two full-scale concerts, one on Saturday 28th December and another on Wednesday 1st January.
The former, entitled, is organised by the Xaghra Local Council and is being held at the Xaghra Basilica. It will feature the choir and its soloists together with the Gaulitanus Orchestral Ensemble. The programme includes a highly interesting variety of Christmassy works – ranging from choral a cappella to orchestral excerpts, and from well-known Maltese or international classics to lesser-known works.
The latter is the 8th edition of A New Year’s Toast, with which the choir musically usher in the New Year. Being held at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz, the event is supported by the Kempinski Hotel, Bank of Valletta and Playpen. As always, the chosen programme presents a festive musical repertoire intended
to set a positive mood for the year’s start and to offer an ideal way to celebrate the New Year with oomph in a relaxed environment. Hence, bouncy Festive Season numbers alternate with some a cappella ones, whereas some exciting Verdi operatic choruses are juxtaposed with some excerpts reminiscing the choir’s three concert tours abroad in the past year. Charming numbers by the great Welsh composer Ivor Novello will complement the programme. This makes A New Year’s Toast a definitely not-to-miss, exciting and spicy evening. Very prominently featuring the Gaulitanus Choir and its soloists, A New Year’s Toast rounds up the Gaulitanus Choir’s first phase of its 2019-2020 season, whilst also opening the choir’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
Both concerts, which start at 19.30hrs and for which entrance is free on a first-come-first-served basis, will be under the artistic and musical director of the choir’s founder-director Colin Attard.
