Gaulitana Artist-in-Residence Alexander Frey returned to the Michael Farley organ at Xewkija for his second appearance in the festival. Presenting a contrasting programme of works showcasing the instrument’s grandeur, the concert featured Gozitan musician George Camilleri as the festival seeks to foster collaboration.

Alexander Frey concluded his stay at Gaulitana with his ever-popular multi-media lecture-recitals – this year exploring Stephen Sondheim. Frey delved into the music icon’s life and multi-faceted contribution to 20th century musical theatre as audiences grabbed a drink at @Ta Cenc.

For Holy Saturday, Gaulitana presented a vocal concert at the charming chapel in the heart of Victoria. Featuring renowned sacred music oeuvres, the programme also featured a cappella Romanian chants from the Orthodox Church liturgy, performed for the first time in Gozo.

The Italo-Romanian duo returned for their second appearance at Gaulitana in a festive concert on Easter Sunday. Popular operatic arias and interludes were paired with folk melodies inspired by the musical idioms of Romania and Spain.

The multimedia presentation trails the journey of the festival along this genre through the years, showcasing the full-scale productions and audio-visual online series produced by the festival.
Gaulitana: A Festival of Music invites aficionados to immerse themselves in a timeless musical experience.
Defined as “a major festival of classical music” (Musical Opinion UK), the annual springtime festival presents a multifarious programme of concerts and recitals in various localities around Gozo as international and local artists star in an eclectic mix of musical styles. The educational programme GAULearn and an exhibition on Puccini run in parallel as the festival aspires to kindle creativity in a month-long cultural bonanza.
