The Gaulitanus Choir‘s will be concert-touring Italy’s Lombardia region between the 9th and the 13th December. This follows the invitation of the Associazione Canticum Novum of Bergamo and its founder-director Erina Gambarini, one of Italy’s foremost personalities in the choral field.
Indeed, the Bergamo-based choir has organized 3 artistic commitments in 3 significant venues in Bergamo and Milan. The first is a mass at the Cattedrale di Sant’Alessandro in Bergamo (Alta) – Bergamo’s historic Duomo and principal church. A concert follows at the Chiesa di Santa Maria Immacolata delle Grazie – a landmark in Bergamo (Bassa) and the base of the Canticum Novum. The Gaulitanus Choir will end its commitments with another concert at Milan’s central and impressive Santuario di Santa Maria dei Miracoli presso San Celso. This final concert will be in aid of UNICEF.
This Lombardia concert-tour will be the choir’s third appearance abroad (co-incidentally all in Italy) during this calendar year – most probably a record in local choral circles. It follows participation in Rome’s Festival di Pasqua in May and its history-making participation in Puccini’s opera La Boheme at the Teatro Antico in Taormina in July. Overall, this will be the choir’s 13th appearance abroad with previous performances also taking them to the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, and Corsica-France.
During this concert-tour – entitled “Gloria in Excelsis Deo! Cantando il Natale” – the choir and its principal soloists will be presenting an interesting and varied selection of compositions from its Christmas repertoire. The choir’s resident accompanist Stephen Attard will join. All will be under the direction of the choir’s founder-director Colin Attard.
This Lombardia concert-tour is supported by the Art Council Malta’s Export Culture Fund.
