The upcoming edition of Gaulitana will feature a new series, MusicAlive – concerts aimed at presenting live music to a wider audience. The festival’s mission of fostering arts and culture, promoting them amongst different social demographics and strata, resulted in the development of this series.
The first event, Tea Party with the Musicals features soloists from the Gaulitanus Choir interpreting numbers from well-known musicals (Oliver, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and Les Miserables amongst others) on Sunday, April 8. For this afternoon tea, patrons shall savour delicacies prepared by Ta’ Cenc’s culinary team whilst enjoying these evergreen classics.
Id-Dar tan-Nanna will be a celebration of Maltese songs featuring Corazon & band with a cameo appearance by the Gaulitanus Choir. The singer/songwriter has established herself as one of the leading figures in the genre of Maltese song, winning the ‘Ghanja tal-Poplu’ festival on four occasions with songs she penned. The concert, held on 14 April at the Oratorju Don Boscp will be in aid of Puttinu Cares.
The final event in the series will be a Lounge Night at Zeppi’s Pub in Qala on Friday 20 April. Maltese jazz band Swing Nuages shall perform in this atypical concert setting. Band member Reggie Clews shall also treat audiences to some numbers from the violin solo repertoire, yet again breaking away from the traditional conformities of classical music.
MusicAlive is presented in collaboration with Ta’ Cenc Hotel & Spa, Puttinu Cares, Swing Nuages and Zeppi’s Pub. Tickets for the tea party can be reserved by emailing gaulitanafestival@gmail.com. For Id-Dar tan-Nanna, patrons are requested to call Oratorju Don Bosco Booking Office.
