The Gaulitanus Choir salutes the memory of Guy Dongradi, the president and founder of the Rencontres Musicales de Méditerranée, who passed away on January 22nd. The Rencontres are held annually in autumn in Corsica, France, with participants coming from the various countries in the Mediterranean basin.
The Gaulitanus Choir and its musical director, Mro Colin Attard, enjoy a particular and long-lasting relationship with this festival and particularly with Dongradi. In fact, the choir – as representatives of Malta – has participated in three different editions of the festival, whereas Attard has been at the Rencontres on variousl other occasions – whether as conductor, arranger, accompanist, co-ordinator or guest. (His most recent invitation was indeed for last November’s edition, which, unfortunately, he could not take up.) This warm collaboration also resulted in some of the Gaulitanus Choir’s soloists participating in the 2015 edition of the festival.
Our warm condolences are offered to Dongradi’s family and to his many colleagues at the Rencontres Musicales de Méditerranée. May the latter keep developing Dongradi’s ‘baby’ – thus bringing together artists from different cultures and backgrounds in a feast of peace, solidarity and artistic excellence.
May he rest in peace
