The umpteenth vocal masterclass led by internationally renowned Maltese soprano Miriam Gauci as part of the GAULearn educational programme (coordinated by Paul Rapa) was another fruitful venture. This rounded up the 19th edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music (artistically directed by Colin Attard). The masterclass was held from August 17 to 20 at the Gozo Visual & Performing Arts School in Xewkija, courtesy of the school’s head, Mr Vince Caruana.
A mixture of seasoned performers and up-and-coming singers thoroughly enjoyed the 4 intensive days of tutoring. Inimitably, Ms Gauci passed technical as well as very practical tips to all the participants, whilst also sharing several of her personal experiences. As always, she was very flexible adjusting herself to the needs and technical levels of the individual participants, thus making all very comfortable.
The master class came to an end with an enjoyable public concert on Thursday, August 20, during which the performers were accompanied by Francis Camilleri, the masterclass’s repetiteur in residence.
All very excitedly look forward to another masterclasses as part of the forthcoming 20th edition of the festival in 2027.
