Gaulitanus Choir founder-director and Gaulitana: A Festival of Music artistic director Colin Attard has recently been in Italy at the ‘XXI Meeting Chitarristico Internazionale – Città di Pedara”. This time round, Mro Attard was not invited to perform or to adjudicate but to receive the “Una Vita per l’Arte” award, which the meeting presents to artists who have substantially contributed to the development of culture.
The meeting is artistically directed by Agatino Scuderi, an internationally renowned guitarist with an impressive career worldwide, including various performances at New York’s Carnegie Hall, who is also the winner of numerous competitions and currently professor of guitar at Catania’s Conservatorio Bellini.
The presentation of the awards took place towards the end of the meeting’s concluding recital, featuring the ‘Seis Cuerdas Dos’ made up of Scuderi himself and Gloria Pafumi. As a matter of fact, the duo has graced the Gaulitana stage two years ago, with Scuderi heading back to Gozo later this month for a Gaulitanus Choir-organized solo recital. Coincidentally, the list of performers and adjudicators at the Meeting also included top Sicilian guitarist Fabio Barbagallo, who had also featured in another choir-organized recital in Gozo some years back.
As was the case with other the awardees, Mro Attard was also invited to present certificates and tokens to some of the winners of the various categories in the Meeting’s competition.
