The OPERA+ Weekend presents three days of quality events intrinsically linked with an operatic production.
This year, Friday commenced with a recital by Liliana Kehayova, boasting a busy concert activity in festivals and recitals around Europe. The programme featuring solo cello works was preceded by a short presentation on the main lateral paintings in Gozo’s second oldest village parish.

Gaulitana presented Puccini’s best-loved opera La Bohème to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death.
Following on last year’s La Traviata, boasting with a “top-notch cast” greeted by “enthusiastic audience” (OperaClick), the festival joins celebrations around the world marking the musical legacy of the Italian master. The full-scale production of the opera associated with youth full of life at the heart of the city of lights wase directed by Enrico Castiglione featuring an international cast, the Gaulitanus Choir and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Colin Attard.

Gaulitana came to a conclusion with the Gaulitanus String Orchestra performing a number of popular works in a fitting ending to a month-long cultural bonanza. Under the baton of Artistic Director Colin Attard, cellist Liliana Keyahova joined the fray interpreting Offenbach’s lyrical Les Larmes de Jacqueline and Popper’s evocative Hungarian Rhapsody.
Gaulitana: A Festival of Music invites aficionados to immerse themselves in a timeless musical experience.
Defined as “a major festival of classical music” (Musical Opinion UK), the annual springtime festival presents a multifarious programme of concerts and recitals in various localities around Gozo as international and local artists star in an eclectic mix of musical styles. The educational programme GAULearn and an exhibition on Puccini run in parallel as the festival aspires to kindle creativity in a month-long cultural bonanza.
