Eminent concert pianist and recording artists Marco Podestà, a familiar face at Gaulitana, collaborated with his daughter, Italian violin prospect Eleonora, in an intimate chamber recital. The delightful repertoire featured sonatas by Mozart, Schubert and Grieg blending classical forms with emotional expression in addition to the contemplative minimalism of Fratres.

The musical experience at Gaulitana extended to the Orient in a unique recital on the Chinese traditional instrument. Performing the pear-shaped plucked string instrument in local couture, virtuoso player Mei Guo interpreted her indigenous music complimented with excerpts from the rock opera Ġwanninu.

Gaulitana complemented the full-scale production of Puccini’s best-loved opera La Bohème with an exhibition in the theatre foyer commemorating the 100th death anniversary of the Italian master. Presented in collaboration with the Fondazione Giacomo Puccini, the Lucca-based entity devoted towards the conservation and promotion of the composer’s cultural heritage, the endeavour nurtured a partnership commenced in 2019 with the exhibition Puccini: The Artist & The Man.

A familiar face with festival audiences, Eugenia Radoslava starred in the second Piano Duo recital in the 2024 edition alongside Albena Petrovic Vratchanska. The repertoire was inspired by dancing tunes & styles rooted in Slavonic, Hungarian and Argentinian rhythms, amongst others as well as works by Petrovic, an internationally-recorded and published composer in her own right.

Eugenia Radoslava featured in her second chamber recital at the festival, this time with compatriot Maria Miteva. Taking cue from the festival’s 2024 theme, the repertoire took concertgoers on a timeless musical journey from the Baroque era to contemporary composers, from classical forms to boogie-inspired works.
Gaulitana: A Festival of Music invites aficionados to immerse themselves in a timeless musical experience.
Defined as “a major festival of classical music” (Musical Opinion UK), the annual springtime festival presents a multifarious programme of concerts and recitals in various localities around Gozo as international and local artists star in an eclectic mix of musical styles. The educational programme GAULearn and an exhibition on Puccini run in parallel as the festival aspires to kindle creativity in a month-long cultural bonanza.
