The Gaulitanus Choir will soon be on its 26th foray overseas – a concert tour in Czechia in September. This will be one of the key events marking the choir’s 35 years of music-making.
The choir will be appearing twice in Prague, namely at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St Vitus, Czechia’s most important church, and at the St Salvator Church, a renowned concert venue with excellent acoustics. The choir then moves to Plzeň where it will give a concert at the Church of St. John of Nepomuk, a most prominent cultural landmark in the city, and eventually to Jihlava, where it will perform at the Town Hall, the Gothic iconic landmark of the home city of the great composer and conductor Gustav Mahler.
During 3 of these events the Gaulitanus Choir will be joined by 3 Czech choral groups, Prague’s ‘En Arché Komorní Sbor’, Plzeň’s ‘Česká Píseň Plzeň’, and Jihlava’s ‘Pěvecké Sdružení Campanula Jihlava’ respectively.
As always when overseas, and in line with its ambassadorial role as a main choral exponent of local culture abroad, the choir will be performing Maltese music. Significantly, the concert tour is entitled ‘Zvuky z Malty’ (Sounds from Malta).
This Czechia concert tour, which is supported by VisitMalta, initially ensued from a Gaulitana: A Festival of Music collaboration with the ‘Halir Trio’ and its leader Eduardo Garcia Salas, and eventually extended to involve the above-mentioned choirs.
