The solo guitar recital presented by the Gaulitanus Choir on Thursday, August 28th, was an awesome artistic event. Italian guitarist Agatino Scuderi fully lived up to his big international reputation, stunning the audience with his exceptional technique and his very beautiful limpid tone, whilst making the very best with the very good acoustics at Savina Church, Victoria.
He performed – completely from memory – works by Francisco Tárrega, Manuel De Falla, Federico Moreno Torroba, Leo Brouwer, Agustin Barrios Mangoré, and Alberto Ginastera; indeed, closing the recital in very grand style by the latter’s terribly taxing Sonata Op. 47. The audience’s reaction was very enthusiastic, resulting in 2 encores
Towards the end of the recital, Scuderi presented Mgr Joe Vella Gauci, the church’s rector who very courteously and warmly made the church available, with a few of his CDs.
