Gaulitana: A Festival of Music celebrated Verdi on his 125th death anniversary with one of his artistic masterpieces, Il Trovatore.
Stretching the dramatic possibilities of the plot to its extreme, the over-arching themes of love, revenge and mistaken identity connect the oeuvre in a musical feast of melodies and vocal fireworks. Marking a pinnacle in Verdi’s creativity, the work was composed with Rigoletto and La Traviata over a 3-year period, and since its acclaimed premiere “began a victorious march throughout the operatic world”.
Following on the “Nabucco to remember” in 2025, this 10th full-scale opera production at the festival featured an international cast with the Gaulitanus Choir and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Colin Attard.
Il Trovatore was part of the OPERA+ Weekend, 3 days of musical excellence bringing the month-long cultural bonanza to a closure.
