The Gaulitanus will be participating in the revival of Joseph Vella’s cantata “Il-Belt Rebbieha” Op. 50, set to a libretto by Oliver Friggieri. The work was penned in 1990 in honour of the city of Birgu – Vitttoriosa (the “Victorious City”), a city which represents the courage of the Maltese who fought in the Great Siege of Malta in 1565 against the mighty Turkish power.
Being revived after 30 years, the performance is fittingly being held at St Lawrence Collegiate Church in Birgu on Saturday 12th November at 19.30hrs. Organised by Festivals Malta, it will be closing the 10th edition of the Three Palaces Festival.
The Gaulitanus Choir will be accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and joined by soprano Miriam Cauchi and tenor Brian Cefai. Mro Colin Attard, the late composer’s nephew and Gaulitanus Choir founder-director, conducts.
Entrance tickets can be obtained on: https://www.festivals.mt/what-s-on/il-belt-rebbieha
