DAY 4:
The day was entirely reserved to Venezia. After breakfast all members left the hotel to visit some of the main sights of the Serenissima – whether the superb Doge’s Palace, the various museums or other important venues – or even enjoyed a boat trip to Murano and Burano.
In the early afternoon all the choristers met at St Mark’s Square in preparation for the animation of the Sunday evening mass at 18.45hrs in the majestic world-renowned St Mark’s Basilica-Cathedral, the seat of the Patriarch of Venice and one of the main symbols of the Veneto region worldwide.
The repertoire performed again included Maltese works – 2 hymns by Giuseppe Caruana and a motet by Pierre Louis Attard – as well as sacred excerpts by Praetorius and Cherubini. The choir was extremely well received and the big congregation present for the mass gave the Gaulitanus Choir a long round of applause at the end of the mass, whereas Padre Giuseppe, who presided over the mass, warmly congratulated the choir director and choristers.
After the mass, the choir had dinner in central Venice and eventually made its way back to the hotel.
